Botox and Xeomin

Botox is a drug doctors have been using for years to treat wrinkles and facial creases. The terms Botox is a brand name of a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. There are other brands, such as Dysport and Xeomin. Botox is the term you hear most often because it was the first injectable botulinum toxin.

Botox and products similar in nature to Botox block signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle, as a result, cannot contract. This cosmetic treatment therefore makes wrinkles relax and soften.

Botox, as a skincare treament, is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines. Botox won’t help with wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity as these types of wrinkles are not the result of muscle contraction.

Because I take care of my body, it doesn’t look like the body of a woman of my years.

Facial wrinkles are caused by everyday muscle activity. As we grow older, our skin loses its elasticity (tightness). The collagen under our skin becomes thinner which causes lines or wrinkles where the skin creases from muscle activity. Botox® Cosmetic and Xeomin prevent the nerves from telling the muscles to contract thus erasing the lines they cause.
